The Burnet High School track and field teams performed well at the Johnny “Lam” Jones Relays hosted by Lampasas March 26.
The Lady Dawgs finished second in the junior varsity division with 132 points and fourth in the varsity division with 69 points, while the Bulldogs were fourth in the varsity division with 75 points and sixth in the junior varsity division with 55 points.
The Lady Dawgs were paced by seniors Asah Roy and Wrigley Mulhollan and freshman Landry Schubert.
Roy was third in the 1,600 meters in 5 minutes and 34.43 seconds and fourth in the 800 meters in 2:31.16. Mulhollan was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.31 seconds and second in the 300-meter hurdles in 50.61 seconds.
“Same story, different week,” Lady Dawgs head coach Crystal Shipley said of the seniors. “These two continue to put in the work to improve, even on spring break. They continue to set the example for our team and are excited for district.”
Schubert took third in the triple jump with a leap of 34 feet and 10 inches.
“Landry is starting to feel more healthy and it is exciting,” Shipley said. “We are limiting what she is doing, so she can focus on triple jump. She is just an incredible athlete that wants to get back to her best – 36-and-a-half feet.”
Lacie Lewis also was third in the pole vault by clearing 8-6.

On the boys side, Russell Ramirez took silver in the 400 meters in 53.22 seconds and fourth in the 800 meters in 2:03.18. Clark Yanez was fourth in the 3,200 meters in 10:27.90. The Bulldogs’ 400-meter and 800-meter relays finished second in 43.46 seconds and first in 1:30.52. Colt McGraw won the triple jump with a leap of 42-10.5.
The best part about this meet may have been the number of district members in attendance.
“It was great to see what we are up against in person,” Shipley said. “We will work to fill empty spots and make adjustments to give as many of our girls an opportunity to advance to area as possible.”
Burnet will host the district meet Wednesday and Thursday, April 8-9.
Before that, the Lady Dawgs’ 400-meter and 1,600-meter relays will compete at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays Friday and Saturday, April 3-4. Those runners are Cheyenne Adams, Alaina Brown, Molly Cupitt, Kayla Delval, Journey Denton, Brooklynn Dawes, Cali Eason, Hayden McCombs, Kalora McDonnell, Kayla Shaw, Brianne Smith and Izabelle Thompson.
